Guests often ask what we would do if we just had a couple of days to explore the Port Townsend area. Where would we eat? What would we explore? While we might be tempted to cozy up in to our cabins and never leave (like we did the first few times we came as guests), here are some of the local favorites...

  • There are many great spots in town to get your morning caffeine fix from Sunrise Coffee Company 🐾 (our local roaster that we feature in our cabins), Better Living Through Coffee and Velocity. Sunrise has outdoor seating where you can enjoy your coffee with your pup.

    The Spruce Goose Café is a “fly-in” café at the PT airstrip - fun to sit and watch the little planes come and go over a tasty meal. Great local flavor, hearty breakfasts, fair prices and friendly service. Open daily for breakfast and lunch.

    Washington’s oldest grocery story operating under the same name since 1895. Located in uptown their selection is a mix of “the eclectic with the ordinary.” They have meat, seafood, produce, a great wine selection, some local products and even sushi.

    This sweet little farmstand is a rural grocery featuring food grown or produced in the fertile valleys of the Olympic Peninsula. It is the perfect spot to pick up some tasty local provisions to enjoy while staying in the cabins.

    The Chimacum Farmer's Market happens Sundays from 10-2 (May - Oct) in their parking lot as well.

    Elevated Ice Cream has excellent house-made ice cream with seasonal flavors (and old favorites). We love the peppermint for the holidays. Even if you’re stuffed, stop by for a scoop. They charge by the weight, so you can have as much or as little as you want. Named one of the seven best ice cream parlors in the country by travelchannel.com. Open daily, 10am until 6-8 pm.

    The Port Townsend Farmer’s Market is one of the best around - named the "2011 WA State Market of the Year!" It is the perfect spot to wander, graze and soak in the local flavor or do some serious shopping. We love our Farmer's Market!

    "The small town wine shop with the big city selection." Experience personal, friendly, knowledgeable service and competitive prices in a very user-friendly atmosphere. Joe Euro has been operating his shop since 1982 and is a beloved wine connoisseur in the Port Townsend community. He shares his vast wine knowledge without any wine snobbery, and can recommend the perfect $9 bottle or the best $90 bottle, depending on your budget.

    They are great for grab and go or enjoy your food in their dog friendly outdoor seating area. 🐾 As a side note Lila was their favorite gal pal pup.

    The Bottleshop has both an indoor space (located in the lobby of the Bishop Hotel) plus a cute garden courtyard (with firepits!) open year round.     Alpenfire makes their cider from their own vast orchard of French and English cider variety trees and was the first organic cidery in Washington State, certified in 2005. Their tasting room is open seasonally (closed until March 2023), Friday through Sunday, noon - 5:00pm.

    Eaglemount makes their hard ciders from heirloom apples and delicious wines from premium grapes from small Eastern Washington vineyards. They are located at the Palindrome, a beautiful iconoc estate at the edge of Port Townsend. The tasting room is open Saturday and Sunday, noon - 5:00pm.

    Fairwinds Winery relies on some of the best growers in the Yakima Valley to provide top quality fruit which is hand picked, transported to the winery, and then fermented in small, highly monitored lots and made into award winning wines. The tasting room is open daily from noon - 5:00pm (Memorial Day through Labor Day) and Friday through Sunday, noon - 5:00pm (September through May).

    Finnriver has a lovely tasting room space with a pavilion and a large field filled with lawn games and orchards to wander through. They have rotating food and a lively entertainment calendar. This is one of our absolute favorite spots to visit in the area. A great place for families. 🐾 Please note they now allow dogs (well-behaved and leashed) in the green space by the Farmhouse, the “Barn Yard” outdoor picnic table area and the Orchard Dog Walk Trail. Dogs are NOT ALLOWED in the Cider Garden Pavilion, Patio Areas, Haybarn or Taproom - no matter the weather. Open Wed-Sun.

    The Pourhouse is a craft beer taproom and bottleshop with 12 (frequently) rotating taps, a well curated wine list, and 200+ bottled beers to drink there or take to go. Their epic outdoor beer garden is right on the water, is 🐾 dog-friendly, and is often bustling with live music and petanque matches. If you like beer, cider or wine, don’t miss this gem! They don't serve food, but you can bring your own food (take-out or picnic) or have something delivered.

PLAY & EXPLORE

Trails, Parks, Golf & More

  • The Larry Scott Memorial Trail is a wonderful, well-groomed trail that travels eight miles from the waterfront in Port Townsend to the southern trailhead which is just down the road past Chevy Chase. It is perfect for walking, jogging, dog exercising and biking. Eventually it will connect with the Olympic Discovery Trail and will go all the way to Neah Bay! Parking areas in Boat Haven (Port Townsend), Cape George Road (midpoint) or at the intersection of South Discovery Road and Milo Curry road (just up the road from Chevy Chase). Don’t have your own bikes - rent ebikes from Olympigo.

  • Jackson and Blaine Streets off of Monroe Street in Port Townsend

    This idyllic 5+ acre park, located on the hillside overlooking Admiralty Inlet, has a commanding view of the Cascade Mountains. It is a perfect spot for an afternoon picnic, a stroll through the gardens, or adventure on the swing set. The park boasts beautiful flower gardens, a tropical water garden, picnic areas and shelter, and play equipment. There is also access to the park's beach and extensive tidelands.

  • 9884 Rhody Drive (Hwy 19), Chimacum, WA

    H.J. Carroll Park is a great addition to our county park system with event pavilions, walking paths, a stone labyrinth maze, basketball courts, picnic and grill area, playground, BMX track, disc golf and athletic fields. In November 2022, an accessible and inclusive playground known as Jefferson Universal Movement Playground (JUMP!) opened. Park is open dawn to dusk.

  • Located eight miles northeast of Hadlock on the northern tip of Marrowstone Island. Fort Flagler State Park is a 784-acre marine camping park surrounded on three sides by 19,100 feet of saltwater shoreline. The park rests on a high bluff overlooking Puget Sound, with views of the Olympic and Cascade Mountains. Many historic buildings remain at this 19th-century-established military fort.

  • Fort Worden State Park overflows with places of interest to visit, study and explore. The gun batteries, or “bunkers,” were the heart and purpose of the fort and fill the hillside above the main fort grounds. The park also has over two miles of shoreline on Puget Sound and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Point Wilson is the dividing line between these two bodies of water, and gives the park two distinct beaches. While you are there, stop by the Cablehouse Beach Canteen for some Batch Brothers Burgers or soft serve ice cream.

    7401 Cape George Road, Port Townsend

    Originally built as the Chevy Chase Golf Club, the Discovery Bay Golf Club is the Pacific Northwest’s oldest public course. The course boasts commanding views of Discovery Bay, Mount Baker and the Olympics. Play this 18-hole, 6,753 yard, par 72 course year round. Full facilities, including a driving range, putting green, club and cart rentals. You can walk across the street or drive up the road and even bring your pup!

  • Do you love to be on the water . . . there is so much to do in this Victorian Seaport including but not limited to Olympic Kayak Tours, Sailing and Fishing.

    Wilderbee Farm is the cutest family-run farm in Port Townsend. They are open Feb-Dec each year and specialize in u-pick lavender, flowers and pumpkins. They raise honeybees for pollination and a conservation flock of rare, primitive British Soap sheep for wool (that you can feed while you are there). They have a cute farm store selling lavender infused products as well as unique woodcrafts made by their father. If that wasn’t enough, they now have a Meadery (the Mead Works) open for tasting in their beautiful barn.

  • The state-of-the-art skateboard park, located near Monroe and Jefferson Streets provides advanced deep bowls, rails as well as a beginner section.

    The Marine Exhibit off the pier has touch pools and aquariums where kids can explore and learn about the diverse fish and invertebrates living below the surface in Port Townsend Bay and Admiralty Inlet. A small but sweet space that is a hit with kids and adults alike. There is also a revolving Natural History Exhibit across the street. Hours vary according to season, we recommend checking their website for details.

    Jefferson County International Airport: 105 Airport Road, Port Townsend

    The Port Townsend Aero Museum is a fabulous little surprise of a museum tucked in at our airport. Kids and adults alike will be captivated by the amazing collection of antique and classic aircraft, many of which are still regularly flown (which is very cool when you see how old some of these planes are!).

    Open Wed-Sun from 9am-4pm. $10 adults/$6 kids (7-12), kids 6 and under free.

    A sweet local library with a nice kids section and fun storytimes for toddlers and pre-schoolers.

  • There are so many sweet little parks in and around Port Townsend. Many are listed on this page. We love the playgrounds at HJ Carroll Park and Chetzemoka (there are two, seek out the giant tire swing!), and in Uptown outside the Rec Center off Lawrence Street. There is also a small but sweet park and the grassy area right downtown by the Maritime Center - the perfect place for little ones to run off energy after a scoop at Elevated Ice Cream. Fort Worden or Fort Flagler are amazing for exploring - bring flashlights and go deep into the bunkers. If you want a change of scenery from our lovely little beach on Discovery Bay, our favorites are North Beach and the beaches at Fort Worden.

Centrum events are held in the 1200-seat McCurdy Pavilion--a renovated WWI-era balloon hangar, in the 300-seat Joseph F. Wheeler Theater, and in various venues in downtown Port Townsend.
