DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO CHEVY CHASE BEACH CABINS
The Seattle/Bainbridge and Edmonds/Kingston ferries leave about
every 45-60 minutes. The Keystone/Port Townsend ferry leaves about every
90 minutes and is occasionally subject to tide and wind cancellations
- it is HIGHLY recommended that you make reservations for this route.
You cannot make reservations for the other routes, be prepared to wait
during peak travel times (3pm-7pm on Friday is the busiest).
Visit http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/schedules/current
for a current schedule.
Via the Downtown Seattle/Bainbridge Island Ferry:
Take the Bainbridge Island ferry from the downtown Seattle waterfront
on Pier 52 (801 Alaskan Way). Follow Hwy 305 straight through Winslow
and Poulsbo. Merge on to Hwy 3 North towards the Hood Canal Bridge.
Cross the Hood Canal Bridge and follow the directions below.*
Via the Edmonds/Kingston Ferry:
From I-5, follow signs for the Edmonds/Kingston Ferry, exit 177. Follow
Hwy 104 to the ferry terminal, and once off the ferry continue on Hwy
104 through Kingston and Port Gamble and follow the signs to Hood Canal
Bridge. Cross the Hood Canal Bridge and follow the directions below.*
From Sea-Tac Airport and Tacoma:
You have a number of options when traveling from the airport and the
Tacoma area to the Olympic Peninsula, and traffic is a major variable.
You can either travel North on I-5 towards Seattle and follow the directions
for the Downtown/Bainbridge Ferry or the Edmonds/Kingston Ferry. The
other option is to head through Tacoma and travel across the Kitsap
Peninsula. The Tacoma route could be fastest if you would be battling
peak ferry hours (3pm to 7pm) and commuter traffic, but the ferries
could prove faster if the Tacoma Narrows Bridge is backed up. Either
way, you should be able to get to Port Townsend in about 2.5 hours if
traffic and ferries cooperate. Driving Around: Take I-5 South towards
Portland. Merge on to Hwy 16 West via exit 132 (towards Gig Harbor/Bermerton/Sprague
Ave.) and cross the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Hwy 16 West becomes Hwy 3
North. Turn left on Hwy 104 West and cross the Hood Canal Bridge. Follow
the directions below.*
*From
the Hood Canal Bridge:
About 5 miles after crossing the Hood Canal Bridge you will see a sign
for Chimacum/Port Townsend, Hwy 19. Take that right. Follow that road
10 miles and pass straight through Chimacum (not much to see-a cafe,
school, etc) and Port Hadlock. When you are just out of Port Hadlock
you will see a Carpet One on the right. Take the left immediately after
Carpet One (Four Corners Road), and follow that road for a mile. If
you reach the airport you have missed the Four Corners Road turn. Continue
straight at the stop sign where you will see a Shell gas station and
the intersection of Hwy 20. At this point, the road turns in to South
Discovery Road. Follow the road for about another mile and you will
see a large white Victorian home on your left--3710 South Discovery
Road. If you reach the golf course you've gone too far. The office is
located on the side of the house with the large, mossy elm trees.
From the WA Coast, Victoria BC, Port Angeles and
Sequim:
Follow US-101 East to Hwy 20. Take a left on Hwy 20 and continue straight
for about 6 miles. Follow directions below.**
From Olympia and Portland, OR:
From I-5 North, merge onto US-101 North via exit 104 (towards Aberdeen/Port
Angeles). Turn right on Hwy 20 and continue straight for about 6 miles.
**Take a left at South Discovery Road (you
will see the Shell gas station on your right). Follow the road for about
a mile and you will see a large white Victorian home on your left--3710
South Discovery Road. If you reach the golf course you've gone too far.
The office is located on the side of the house with the large, mossy
elm trees.
From British Columbia, Bellingham and Whidbey Island:
NOTE!! There is just one car ferry running
on this route - it is subject to tide and weather cancellations and
runs about every 90 minutes (even in the summer). At peak travel times
expect long lines and possible cancellations/delays. It is HIGHLY recommended
that you make reservations
for this route. If you are not already on Whidbey Island:
from 1-5 South take exit 230 toward Hwy 20 (Anacortes/San Juan Ferry).
Continue on Hwy 20 across Deception Pass and across Whidbey Island.
Follow signage to the Keystone ferry at the South end of Whidbey Island.
Follow directions from Downtown Port Townsend.***
***From Downtown Port Townsend:
If you are arriving on the Keystone Ferry, take a left from the ferry
dock (downtown Port Townsend is to the right), and follow the main road
(Hwy 20/Sims Way) out of town for approximately 2 miles until you reach
a stoplight at Mill Road/Discovery Road. Take a right at the light (you
will be at the "Welcome to Port Townsend" sign) and an immediate
left on to Discovery Road. Follow Discovery Road for about 3.5 miles.
Turn in to the driveway of the large white Victorian home on your right,
just past the Discovery Bay Golf Course--3710 South Discovery Road.
The office is located on the side of the house with the large, mossy
elm trees.
